Named for one of the Channel Islands off the coast of the United Kingdom, the Guernsey is our take on the classic fisherman’s sweater.
Originally, sweaters like this one — cream in color, cabled in texture — were knit for Irish fishermen by their wives. These lasses worked with unwashed sheep wool, which is thick and waterproof, and resulted in that trademark off-white color.
Don’t have a little lady on hand to make your clothes? We’ve updated the classic in a spring-appropriate cotton and tricked it out with nautical details like an anchor patch and shawl collar that bring this piece into a new era.
Wear it all season with dark jeans and deck shoes like Dylan in our New Canaan store; it’s a simple look that works well on land — just in case, you know, you’re not heading out to sea this season.
