DJ Josh Madden
To kick off New York Rugby’s September Friday Nights Concert Series, we asked fave DJ’s Josh Madden and Nick Palmacci (performing this week in our University Place store) to come up with the perfect Rugby playlist. Get a taste below. For those of you in NYC, stop by the University Place store this Friday at 6:00 for more of a very good thing. And for all you out-of-towners, enjoy this playlist we created just for you on our new favorite music sharing site, 8tracks.com (it’s everything we love about Muxtape, but better).
“Listening Man,” The Bees
Josh Madden: The Bees, formerly called Band of Bees, are from England. This track sounds like old soul music, but they look like the American band My Morning Jacket. I like the laid-back vibe.
“Sex On Fire,” Kings Of Leon
Nick Palmacci: I love the vibe and feeling on this track, off the new album (releasing in late September) by this Nashville family band.
“Hey Little Rich Girl (Feat. Zalon & Ade),” Amy Winehouse
JM: Amy Winehouse, like myself, is a chav. I think she might like old ska and soul as much as I do.
“Weekend Wars,” MGMT
NP: Don't just pay attention to the radio, spend time with this record and you'll discover the jam, enough said. "Weekend Wars" is a new definition.
“Hurricane Jane (The Twelves Remix),” Black Kids
JM: My brother Joel turned me on to the Black Kids a while ago, before anyone was talking about them. I've loved The Cure since I was 13 years old and heard “Jumping Someone Else's Train.” The Kids remind me of that era of The Cure. And I love all the remixes that The Twelves do.
“Straight To Hell,” The Clash
NP: Strummer and Simonon at their best. This classic from Combat Rock is the original “Paper Planes,” and you can see why anyone would want to sample this track.
“I've Got my Mind Set on You,” George Harrison
JM: If this song came out today, it would be every bit the smash it was when it was released. George Harrison (Traveling Wilburys era) is totally slept on. I'll bet $100 Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, Lupe Fiasco, Jay Z and Pharell will all be on a remix of this track produced by Danja in the next six months. It's an official jam.
“Geraldine,” Glasvegas
NP: UK newcomers make a play to bring back 1960s producer Phil Spector's famed "Wall of Sound" technique with this heart-wrenching vocal-driven garage song.
BONUS TRACK :
“Titus Andronicus,” Titus Andronicus
NP: Raw, edgy punk rock...damn!
