RUGBY MUSIC: Clare and the Reasons
Music
We were so smitten by Clare Manchon and her Reasons at this year’s CMJ festival in New York, we wanted to bring you a download from her new album Arrow, out last week, so you can share the love. We tracked down the sweet soprano while she was en route to a performance in Newport, Kentucky, ("We've been reading the KISS biography, KISS And Tell, aloud," she told us from the car) to ask her about the new record, how she made it and what else she's listening to these days. Download the single "Ooh You Hurt Me So" and click through for more on Clare and her boys.

HOLIDAY 2009 COLLECTION VIDEO: Free Download of Black Magic
Music
Live on our homepage today, our new Holiday Collection video is soundtracked by Nashville fuzz-bomb Magic Wands, the distorted, snuggly result of two hopeless romantics making hopelessly romantic music. A couple onstage and off, Chris and Dexy Valentine (seriously. Valentine.) have a detached cool that’s a sharp contrast to their starkly amorous lyrics. Innocent puppy-love sentiments like “Meet me down by the soda machine/Show me now what our love means” are given a unique rock 'n' roll tint when filtered through brittle drum machines, suffocating guitar scuzz and their ubiquitous sunglasses.
We waved down Magic Wands to talk about the influence of Chuck Berry, their stuffed-lion band mascot and the pros and cons of sharing a hotel room with your tour manager (turns out it’s mostly cons). Download the song “Black Magic” and our Holiday Collection video, and get our interview with the band after the jump.

RUGBY MUSIC: CMJ Wrap
Music
If the point of CMJ is to find new bands to love, the struggle with CMJ is how to dig out those needles in a haystack from the thousands of shows all over New York City. Lucky for you, we dragged ourselves all over town last week, waited in epic lines, braved packed-to-the-gills venues and drank about a thousand PBRs. (Hey, blogging is a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.) And you now get to reap the benefits. Covering the spectrum from funky to country, we give you our six favorite bands from CMJ after the jump.
