SENDING GOOD VIBES:
SocialVibe.com

Social Action

We applaud your awe-inspiring Facebook popularity (lord knows all those friends don’t come easy), but isn’t it time you use those powers for the greater good? Get yourself a karma boost with SocialVibe, a widget you paste on your blog or social networking profile that channels charitable donations. Go to SocialVibe.com and choose from a variety of sponsor brands — foods, tech products, toothpaste, etc. The site will create a badge with ads for your sponsor, which you then post to your profile. They do all the display work, so you can sit back and rack up points whenever your hundreds of adoring friends, frolleages, and frenemies visit your page. You’ll get perks from your sponsor and generate donations designated to a cause of your choice (SocialVibe works with tons of charities, including the Surfrider Foundation and the World Food Programme), so you can give back while growing your network. Think of it as a Mother Theresa/Regina George mash-up.

OLD SCHOOL/NEW SCHOOL:
Water Bottles Have a Meta Moment

Miscellany

Old School: Is it just us, or was everything chicer in the pre-plastic age? Few Rugby readers are old enough recall the milkman's quaint glass bottles arriving on the doorstep each morning, but we all can appreciate the classic simplicity of design in everyday objects.

New School: We’re totally digging on these glass containers in the ‘90s-retro shape of plastic water bottles (very meta — we love the irony, natch). We first discovered them at a beloved boutique on the Lower East Side and have since seen them in a bunch of versions; Crate & Barrel even has one. For all the reasons of environment, health and style, we’re psyched to ditch our trusty Nalgene in favor of one of these irreverent vessels.

MEN’S STYLE:
Leggo My Shirt

Style

Good news, boys.  A classic fashion mash-up returns this season to keep your internal temp in-check all the way through March Madness -- the waffle-knit shirt. As prodigal sons, the thermal and waffle-knit shirt are reborn in such hearty, casual comfort, it makes you wonder if a puffer jacket and vintage T got together and spawned a supershirt following a wild weekend of spring skiing. Or maybe they just met at The Enchantment Under the Sea Dance. But science or romance aside, you can’t argue with these styles’ feel, function and versatility. Sport it solo with jeans, khakis and sweats, or, for extra insulation, layer under your favorite rugby, hoodie or cardigan. No matter how you mix it up on top, the cozy cling of the thermal will always treat you right. Besides, who can argue with a shirt that actually shares the traits of an American breakfast classic? Mmmmm… Waffles….

CRIMSON TIDE:
Mr. Harvard 2009

Miscellany

First there was Mr. Peanut; then came Mr. Universe. Now, to the glee of future hedge-fund wives everywhere, there is Mr. Harvard. And it comes as no surprise to us to learn that Boston store associate Stefan is among the 13 handsome brainiacs vying for the illustrious title.

TO WHIT:
Metropolitan Redux

Culture

One of the highlights of our holiday season was the excuse to revisit the classic 1990 Whit Stillman film Metropolitan for our guide to men’s party dressing. And now, with all the parties behind us and the bleak stretch until spring break sprawling before us, it warmed us to the bottom of our frozen toes to discover that Stillman himself recently returned the favor and visited us...

Absinthe-s.jpg

OLD SCHOOL/NEW SCHOOL:
Absinthe is Having a Moment...Or Trying To

Miscellany

All of a sudden absinthe is back and trying to take the cocktail market by storm. Only problem is, it tastes terrible. Candy gurus Lollyphile, at least, are doing their part to make the stuff more palatable and keep the trend alive.
