WHO WEARS IT BEST: Georgetown vs. San Francisco

Last round, the Georgetown men took on NYC in our “Who Wears It Best” challenge and rocked our cricket sweater with such awesome personality that they actually overthrew our University Place flagship store as reigning style champions. This time, we decided to bring a little East Cost/West Coast flavor to the rivalry and match victorious Georgetown against the ladies from our San Francisco store. We always knew we loved the toggle coat for its super cozy feel and classic look, but we recently learned a couple things we didn’t know about its history. And since we think the holidays are no time to stop expanding your mind, we figured we'd share them with you. (You can thank us later.) The toggle coat, also known as the duffel coat, is perfect for layering up, throwing on and getting out (of class, of town, of bedroom windows) in a hurry. Originally created in England around the turn of the 20th century for Royal Navy sailors to wear over bulky uniforms, they gained popularity after World War II when leftovers were sold at military surplus stores.
